Ciasa Vedla (meaning old house in Ladin), is our oldest hut. The upper part from extremely weather resistant larch wood is approximately 250 years old. Here, hay was being stored which was transported on a sledge to the valley in winter to feed the animals in the stables.
In those days there were no power lines here, which is why the generator for power generation was located in the lower part. The Ciasa was refurbished some 30 years ago and has since been used as a residential house. The larch wood shows the effects of centuries of exposure to the sun. Directly next to the hut is a beautiful example of a “living” larch.

PS: The larch is the only coniferous tree that loses its needles every year and becomes bare.
